Inside Conjay: Innovation, insight, and a glimpse at the future of defence

Amongst the UK’s specialist ammunition and defence equipment industry lies Conjay – a company long trusted by collectors, armed forces, and industry professionals alike. A company ran by experts from across the industry. We recently sat down with Richard Jeffery, our Chief of Staff, to learn more about the company’s work, its proudest moments, and what the future might hold for defence technology.

1. Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about your role at Conjay?

Absolutely. I’m the Chief of Staff here at Conjay. My role is to coordinate and align the work of our team, including R&D, business development, sales, and site management. In short, I help ensure that each team is working toward our shared goals whilst maintaining Conjay’s standards of innovation and quality.

2. What’s been your most memorable experience since joining Conjay?

This would be seeing our EXPEN kits being used in conjunction with demonstrations of the consequences of them ‘not being used’. It really drives home the importance of explosive detection and identification, both in operational contexts and during disposal.

3. Which Conjay product or service do you find most exciting, and why?

Without a doubt, it’s our Design Bureau. There’s nothing quite like seeing the team develop our own cutting-edge tools, like our Automatic Bullet Puller. But equally exciting is collaborating with clients to create bespoke solutions tailored to their unique needs. That blend of in-house innovation and client-driven R&D is where Conjay really shines.

4. What’s one thing you think more people should know about Conjay?

We’ve just secured exclusive rights to supply HTI sniper rifles and other firearms in the UK. This marks a significant expansion of our capabilities and offerings, and opens up new access to high-performance, precision weaponry.

5. Looking ahead, what emerging technologies do you think will shape the future of the defence industry?

Whenever I’m asked about predicting the future, I’m always reminded of historic examples which invariable fail miserably giving everyone a good giggle. That, or I lose my money. With those words of caution, I expect networked direct energy weapon arrays to be the shaping force in the short to medium future. Although it isn’t necessarily the individual elements (e.g. sensors, energy source, weapons) or even the integration technology (invariably AI driven) that will drive the change, rather it is the resilience and volume of production and replenishment of any such systems that will drive the wider change.

Whether you’re seeking armour and ballistic ammunition, explosive/narcotic test kits, or Counter-IED solutions, our team is here to help. With a commitment to innovation, safety, and technical excellence, we aren’t just watching the future unfold – we’re helping shape it.
